“Tim Gnau provided Financing and/or Joint Ventures for a number of my projects over the years. To name a few, the Embassy Suites in the Kansas City Country Club Plaza area, Embassy Suites-Minneapolis, MN, Embassy Suites – Austin, TX, Embassy Suites – Buena Park, CA, Embassy Suites – San Antonio, TX, Embassy Suites San Francisco (Burlingame) and Woolley’s Petite Suites at the John Wayne International Airport in Orange County, CA. Initially and most notable, I approached Tim as he was wandering in the Country Club Plaza Hotel during the final construction stage and I asked him if I could help him. He told me he was seeking to talk to the owner and I told him I was the owner. He then asked me “Do you need money?” I answered with a big “Yes” and he informed me he could get me a non-recourse permanent loan for about 80% of the market value. After his due diligence and loan submittal he presented to me a commitment from Cigna and our business relationship took off from there. This would be my first non-recourse loan, but not my last. As a mortgage banker in those years Cigna relied heavily on Tim as their fiduciary lending source on selecting good loans for them. The Country Club Plaza was my second suite hotel and the industry was unaware of what a suite hotel was. Tim knew it would be a winner and so it was. Since those days I have developed over 80 suite hotels in the U.S. and Mexico.”
